Urban Dictionary got it right.

Last year during the Salem, WI show rehearsal, the corps was working on increasing their sound volume.  The rest of the souvie crew and I walked three or four blocks down to the McDonald’s for dinner and could still hear the corps.  More importantly, the corps was facing away from us.

Where have you auditioned before?
Me:

I’ve auditioned at colts, bluecoats, and phantom. I got cut from phantom last year before I made it this year

juice-p0uch:
hi! I'm wondering how DCI/WGI front ensemble auditions. does everyone audition for marimba, then get relegated to marimba, vibes, etc.? I'm asking because I really want a vibe spot in 2014.
Me:

At places that I have auditioned, it works like this.  If you want to play a mallet keyboard position, you’re not necessarily “assigned” to a certain keyboard.  For instance at phantom, many people doubled up on boards to play exercises and since we all play with Steven’s technique, it didn’t really matter whether it was a vibe or marimba.
From there once we all made the line, then the instructors typically delegate who they want on marimba (typically those with better technique and chops), vibes, or xylo/glock.

Keep in mind I have never auditioned for WGI or a DCI that uses stevens and burton grips, but that’s been my experience.  Hope it helped. :) And if you have any questions on tips feel free to ask!

Something I would highly recommend
